McKinleyville is the fastest-growing town in Humboldt County and as such, the existing small station was no longer adequate to serve the community’s needs. The challenge of more than doubling the size of the building, making the appropriate technology upgrades, and doing so on budget was a challenge that Greenway welcomed. In both buildings, upgrades included improved alert systems that benefited the long-term health the long-term health of the firefighters, upgraded the sleeping and cooking facilities, and modernized the functionality of the stations.
The fire station in Arcata was the first to begin construction and Greenway managed the job from permitting, tear down, and excavation, to coordination of utilities, and management of all of the vendors and suppliers for the client’s specialty equipment. McKinleyville followed, and in the space of 10 months, Greenway guided Arcata Fire through the modernization of both facilities for a total project cost ofless than $3.5 million, saving the District and community taxpayers over $4.5 million and providing both cities beautiful facilities that will be an asset for years to come.
