Arcata Fire District
Upgrading Our Local Fire Stations
When the Arcata Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) approached us for help with their plans to open a new fire station, we got to work analyzing their situation. Their issue was related to funding the construction and build-out of an entire new station, which would cost millions of dollars more than they had raised or was available to them. With their constricted funding, it would take them several years at least to raise the necessary money for the job.
We determined that even though a new station would be amazing, their current station was located in the perfect spot for 90% of calls. To move their location would be a bad decision for their response time, and as we all know, emergency responders care deeply about their response times. Additionally, their old stations were a perfect target for a retrofit. We did some cost analysis, and found that remodeling their existing facility would easily save them millions, and bring the completion date forward years. In the end, that is exactly what happened.
Greenway completed strategic planning, financial structure, architectural and engineering design and oversaw the entire project as both project and construction manager.
