Leading a select group of community members, fire personnel, and District board members through a facilitated discovery process, Greenway created a pathway for organizational improvements through the completion of a Strategic Plan. This plan created the clarity and direction needed for Arcata Fire to make the critical decision to abandon the pursuit of a new $8 million facility and instead modernize two existing facilities.
With a plan in place, Greenway got to work on designing facilities that not only accommodated the current functional needs of the fire department, but that also left room for future growth. In Arcata, modernizing a station that had been built as a volunteer facility and turning it into a building that housed a professional full-time fire department, while honoring the fact that it was a historical building in a historical district presented unique challenges requiring creative and innovative solutions.
