LEED® Certification and Building Commissioning
The Fishermen’s Terminal Building is one of Northern California’s only buildings certified LEED Gold.
A capstone redevelopment project for the Eureka waterfront, the Fishermen’s Terminal Building officially opened summer 2011. It provides modern seafood processing space and retail opportunities for local companies. Located at the foot of C street, on the Eureka Waterfront, it is connected to adjacent pedestrian plazas and outdoor event venues for recreation and tourism opportunities.
The LEED certification process was overseen by Greenway Principal, Steve Salzman, P.E., LEED AP; Fawn Scheer, Project Manager, coordinated the documentation and certification efforts. Steve Salzman was also the project’s Commissioning Agent, ensuring that the heating, water, and mechanical systems were properly installed and operating. Greenway worked closely with the City of Eureka, as well as other local firms, including LaPotre and Cleek Architects, Abbay Technical, Whitchurch Engineering, SHN, and others.
In addition to the LEED certification, Greenway is overseeing the installation of a 57 kW photovoltaic array on the south-facing roof of the building. This PV system is expected to produce nearly 80,000 kW-hours annually and cover one-third to one-half of the building’s projected electricity demand. Designed and installed by McKeever Energy and Electric, it will be the northcoast’s largest PV array on a municipal building.
