Backcountry Trail Development

In response to construction on Highway 299, the Humboldt Trails Council was able to partner with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to solicit funds from the state’s Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program to develop backcountry trails in the Lacks Creek Management Unit. Humboldt Trails Council was awarded the grant from the California Natural Resources Agency, and developed a Cooperative Management Agreement with the BLM for this project.
Greenway was hired by Humboldt Trails Council to design, plan and manage the installation of a series of downhill and flow mountain bike trails. In coordination with subcontractor Fogline Trail Systems, our work includes trail corridor design, shaping and finishing, as well as mapping completed trail sections, installing signage, arranging volunteer work days, and managing the grant requirements. Trail construction was completed in 2017. Humboldt Trails Council, under its agreement with the BLM, will provide monitoring of trail use and condition through 2018.
