Steve is a licensed civil engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional. He brings over 20 years of professional consulting engineering experience to GreenWay Partners. He has been the lead engineer and/or the project manager on a wide variety of projects spanning the fields of land development, green building, local and state permitting and entitlements processes, integrated waste management planning, and environmental review and documentation.
After receiving a B.A. in Industrial Arts and Technology from Humboldt State University, Steve worked as a general building contractor, a solar installer and a mechanic. Steve went on to receive a B.S. in Environmental Resources Engineering from HSU. He worked for the California Regional Water Quality Control Board and the City of Eureka before entering the private sector. Steve went on to work for two of the most prestigious engineering firms on the North Coast for 20 years before launching GreenWay. With his educational background and hands-on experience, Steve is able to develop solutions to environmental engineering problems that are technically sound, and economically feasible.
Steve is well-versed in public speaking and is active in a number of community organizations. Steve is a founding member and the Executive Director of Plan It Green, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization. This grass roots group has been responsible for organizing three conferences and numerous workshops and lectures focused on green building and related subjects. Plan It Green is also working with Redwood Coast Energy Authority in the development of a green building program that will be used by Humboldt County and its seven cities.
As a lecturer at HSU’s Environmental Resources Engineering Department, Steve developed curriculum for and taught courses in Integrated Waste Management and Introduction to Environmental Engineering. He has developed content for, created training programs for, and coordinated training sessions at a number of conferences for a variety of environmental and green planning subjects. Steve also serves on the City of Arcata’s Energy Committee and helped to develop Arcata’s greenhouse gas inventory and reduction plan. Steve has been a resident of Humboldt County for over 35 years and lives with his wife, Joan Levy, in the hills outside of Arcata where they raised their two daughters, Lindsay and Tessa.
