Entrepreneurship Report for the City of Arcata wins APA’s Grassroots Initiative Award of Merit.

Greenway Partners (Arcata) announced that it has won the American Planning Association’s (APA) 2012 Grassroots Initiative Award of Merit for the California Northern Section for its report, “Developing the Seedbed for Arcata’s Emerging Entrepreneurs.” The APA California Northern Section is the largest in the State of California, with over 1,900 members from the Monterey coastline to the northern border.

Greenway is hosting the first TED Talk Tuesday – an informal discussion group that will gather to watch pre-recorded TED Talks and discuss issues and ideas that are inspired by those talks.

The TED Talk topics for the evening will be focused on innovation and creativity.

This event will be fun and engaging – not your usual film screening and Q&A!

The first stakeholder meeting for planning the Creamery District – a community arts district – was held Sunday, February 5, 2012.

Attendees included local artists, area residents and business owners, City of Arcata staff and elected officials, and other interested parties. The 3-hour workshop brought stakeholders together to begin defining elements and themes to include in the vision for a Creamery District.

Jackie Dandeneau, of the Arcata Playhouse, coordinated the meeting and has spearheaded initial planning efforts among a core group of interested parties. The stakeholder meeting was facilitated by Fawn Scheer of Greenway, with graphic recording by Heather Equinoss of The Humboldt Area Foundation.

Greenway Principal, Kirk Cohune, in his volunteer capacity as President of the Humboldt Trails Council, coordinated the second annual Race for the Ridge festival. Drawing runners and cyclists (many from out of the area), the fundraiser event for the Arcata Ridge Trail started on Saturday in Redwood Park, and concluded on Sunday near Willow Creek. Racers of all ages participated in cross-country courses – here is a brief video of one event.

Steve Salzman, Principal at GreenWay Partners and Executive Director of Plan it Green announces the 5th Annual Building Green Communities Conference to be held at the Arcata Community Center on April 1st and 2nd, 2011.  This years conference focuses on youth entrepreneurship and innovation with workshops and presentations beginning April 1st at 9 AM. The conference will feature panel presentations, engaging activities and fun for all ages with a Petting Zoo, a Samba Parade, the first farmer’s market of the year, a catered local buffet dinner and a keynote address delivered by David Hopkins, a social entrepreneur with experience in working on some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
